Neema Yona Yohana

Neema Yona Yohana, is an experienced plant scientist specializing in crop science and plant breeding. She holds an MSc in Crop Science from Sokoine University of Agriculture, where she completed her studies in 2015, and a B.Sc. in Agriculture from the same university, earned in 2009. Her academic background is complemented by various specialized trainings, including workshops on mutation breeding in food crop improvement and disease diagnostics, held in countries such as Ghana, Austria, and Kenya. Professionally, Neema has been serving as a Research Assistant Officer and Acting In-charge at the Tanzania Official Seed Certification Institute (TOSCI) since 2010. Her main responsibilities at TOSCI include conducting variety evaluation trials, seed certification, and training farmers on seed industry practices. She also oversees the institute's activities in the southern zone of Tanzania. Prior to this, she worked as a Sales and Agronomist at East African Seed Co. Limited, where she gained experience in agronomy and sales within the agricultural sector. Neema has significant research experience, particularly in genetic characterization and field practical training. Notable projects include her research on heat-tolerant upland mutant rice and screening bean lines for bruchid resistance. Her research and practical work have contributed to improving crop yields and addressing issues related to disease and abiotic stresses in agriculture. She is also skilled in computer applications, statistical analysis, and is proficient in Kiswahili and English.
